Bethanyisms can’t survive without the submissions of you, the reader. Myself, and the other moderators are beyond thrilled when we see we have a new submission. Our minds race as we wonder if it will be another submission for Quotable Friday, a piece of gossip about our esteemed “President” or whatever struck the fancy of the submitter.
The posts we publish tend to be the most funny, the most inspiring and ones that we hope will piss off the jackass in the House the most… We, dare I say it, moderate the submissions that make it on to our little site here.
But recently the things being submitted have been taking a rather sinister turn. Myself and the other moderators have been called “pussy” for not wishing to post certain submissions. Submissions that would alienate, discriminate and hurt many of our fellow students; something that this site was not created for. Our we really “pussy” for not wishing to cause any psychological, or possible physical harm to anyone that walks those majestic hills with us?
The only one we wish to ridicule and wish to see exposed for what they truly are is the man who needs to stop fake tanning.
One of these submissions claimed to identify one of the moderators and even gave a compelling,well-written, grammatically-correct, vindictive argument to have that same moderator publish it on the website. The lackluster submission made one think it was indeed a student who wished to see the downfall of one of their fellow Bethanians. They asked the moderator to “watch me dance buddy”… So why not let us take the lead on this one? (Yes, a horrible dance pun, indeed.)
Submitters like this do not seem to get the point, that this website is by students for students. The higher ups at this school wish nothing more than for the moderators, myself included, to identify themselves so they can persecute us. This site was made in an effort to draw awareness to any misdealings and grievances that many Bethanians have with the magical place on top of the Hill.
At this same time, another submission was received basically identifying all of us as liberal hippies… But how much do you really know about us, any of us? Myself and the other moderators each hold different views on almost every topic imaginable. In fact, if you we’re to sit down in a room as each of us talked to one another you would be surprised by what you would hear. Some of us are Democrat, some of us are Republican; some grew up in rural America, others grew up in large cities; some of us love cats, some love dogs… Point is: we are all different. We thought an eclectic view is what would make this site function, and from what we’ve seen so far, we’ve been right. We’ve each had our eyes opened by one or more of the other moderators and have learned a lot from each other and from the submissions that we’ve recieved for the site. Each of our eyes have been opened in one way or another and we’re all better for it. And if you read our site recently, we have a new moderator, someone with their own thoughts, preferences, beliefs. Hopefully one can tell that we aren’t all the same here.
I’m not asking you to stop submitting articles, quotes, stories, anything you may hear about Bethany. The site needs them to survive. But we ask, politely of course, to remember your mother said to you as a child, or what you may have heard somewhere else:
“Mind your manners.”
